Obesity and Co-morbidities
There aren’t different types of obesity diagnosis. However, there are many different causes and circumstances, and often obesity occurs alongside other illnesses or difficulties which affect the individual’s wellbeing and recovery. These co-morbidities are taken into account when we treat you at Flourish, in terms of both mental and physical wellbeing. Our expert dietitians will be able to help you with dietary recommendations to benefit your healing in other areas besides weight-management, and our therapists or wellbeing coaches can guide you in self-care according to your needs. Some typical co-morbidities (not an exhaustive list) include:

Diabetes: Diabetes is often a result of dietary issues alongside obesity, and our dietitians are able to help you manage this with personalised food plans you will find satisfying and enjoyable.

Chronic Pain: Ongoing pain, caused by another condition (such as Fibromyalgia) can become a cause of obesity, when it makes movement and exercise difficult or leads to comfort eating. It can also be a result of the physical effects of obesity. Through therapy we can help you to manage the pain and your lifestyle better, teaching coping and self-care skills which work for you.

Chronic fatigue: Conditions such as ME or others which cause overwhelming tiredness can make weight harder to manage, as exercise and energy maintenance can become complicated. Our clinicians are able to work with people who experience debilitating conditions and help them to improve both their relationship with food / weight and their general wellbeing.
